The Deep Beneath (H.A.L.F) by Natalie Wright
(H.A.L.F #1)
Publication date: January 7th 2015

Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult

H.A.L.F. 9 has taken his first breath of desert air and his first steps in the human world. Created to be a weapon, he proved too powerful for his makers and has lived a sedated life hidden from humans. But H.A.L.F. 9 has escaped the underground lab he called home, and the sedation has worn off. He has never been more alive. More powerful. Or more deadly.
Erika Holt longs to ride her motorcycle east until pavement meets shore. She bides her time until graduation when she’ll say adios to the trailer she shares with her alcoholic mother and memories of her dead father. But a typical night in the desert with friends thrusts Erika into a situation more dangerous than she ever imagined.
Circumstances push the two together, and each must make a fateful choice. Will Erika help H.A.L.F. 9 despite her “don’t get involved” rule? And will H.A.L.F. 9 let Erika live even though he was trained to kill?
The two may need to forget their rules and training and if either is to survive the dangers of the deep beneath them.

This book had a brilliant plot. There are a lot of interesting sic-fi elements in this novel which I have never seen before. I was never a sic-fi girl, but now I want to become one.

Erika was brave, confident, willing to make incredible sacrifices for her friends and basically everything you would want in a female protagonist. I absolutely adored her, and seeing from her point of view (even though it wasn't first person)

H.A.L.F 9 was... indescribable. I honestly cannot find the right words to describe him. All I can say is that I really, really, really, really, really, really liked him. You probably will too if you read this book, which you should.

Writing Style:
It was great! We saw the two main different perspectives from the third person, and I've never seen this in Sci-fi before. It's usually in first person and dual perspective, which is annoying. Honestly, everything about this book was great.

It was a great book and you should go into it blind to enjoy the full effect. 5/5 stars.
