These debut authors reveal their literary talent in 2017 | Top Ten Tuesday

January 03, 2017

Hey guys! There are sooooooooo many new releases I'm excited for in 2016. Today, I'll be focusing on the debut novels I am excited about! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This book seems very, very entertaining and intriguing. It's about two sisters who escape their ruthless father and find themselves in a mysterious game. It has already gotten some good feedback from the community.

Cold Summer by Gwen Cole

First, that cover is gorgeous. Second, it's about a time-traveler who travels to WWII and when he returns to present day, he finds himself dealing with PTSD. WOAH!

You're Welcome, Universe
by Whitney Gardner

This is a contemporary about a deaf girl who has to go to a normal, public school after she gets expelled from her previous "school for the deaf" for covering for her best friend (who snitched on her.)

Gilded Cage by Vic James

This is an intriguing fantasy about aristocrats with magical gifts. Abi has to decide between her love and her liberty, while her brother is enslaved and wants a revolution.

Empress of a Thousand Skies
by Rhoda Belize

Aly has risen above his refugee roots and become famous, but then he's falsely accused of killing the Empress, Rhee. They are both thrown together to "to confront a ruthless evil that threatens the fate of the entire galaxy."

It's not like it's a secret by Misa Suguira

A 16 year old named Sana has a lot of secrets, including her sexuality. She might have a crush on a girl named Jamie, but her friends don't approve. Meanwhile, an unsuspecting guy pursues her.

It Started With Goodbye by Christina June

After being falsely accused of crime, Tatum is stuck with her imposing stepmother and her BFF's ghost. She is stuck doing community service during the day and doing graphic design at night in secret. Then, she finds out she's not the only one in the house keeping secrets.

The Hate U Give by
Angie Thomas

This is a story about a girl torn between two worlds: her poor neighbourhood and her posh high school. When she witnesses her best friend being shot by the police, what she says could either destroy her community or get her killed. It is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement so... should be interesting.

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

When Adam lands an elective aiding the school psychologist, his only aim is to spend the whole time texting his friends. Then, he sees his foster brother, Julian, after five years and  discovers secrets about his rough life at home, and gets involved.

Dare Mighty Things by Heather Kaczysky

There isn't much information about this book but it is described as Contact meets the Selection. A brilliant Indian-American girl competes to win the last astronaut slot for an experimental mission into space.

What are some of your most anticipated debut novels? Have you read ARCs of any of the books I mentioned? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I'm so excited for Caraval! I pre-ordered the edition with the sprayed edges - I'm a sucker for those - from Goldboro Books. Gilded Cage sounds really interesting too!
    Take care,
