The enchantment continues....
The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories—and secrets—that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?
With nine stories—five of which have never before been published—and an exclusive never-before-seen excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s upcoming novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles.

Gosh, I loved delving back into this world again! It was so much fun. Plus, Rebecca Soler, the audiobook narrator, is incredible! The last time I reread the series, I did it via audiobook and it was great.

The Keeper: This short story was about Scarlet's grandmother getting a visit from Logan about Princess Selene, AKA Cinder. It showed where Cinder was for the first few years of her life on Earth. It also showed Scarlet as a kid, coming to live with her grandmother instead of her father. I really enjoyed this story, as it gave us specifics about Cinder's young life. We also got to see Scarlet's relationship with her grandmother evolve, which was great! ★★★★.5

Glitches: This showed Cinder going to meet her adoptive family for the first time, and I loved the part where she met Pearl and Iko joined the family as well. She was still adjusting to life on Earth in this story, and her new cyborg parts which automatically searched the web when she didn't know something. We also got to know Garran a little bit for the first time, which was nice. Cinder's inner mechanic also started coming out in this story. ★★★★☆

The Queen’s Army: This is supposed to be a prequel to Scarlet. It showed Wolf, or Ze'ev Kesley being recruited into Queen Levana's army and being transformed into a new creature with Wolf genes. This was so heartbreaking. A lot of people think Scarlet and Wolf are the least interesting pair of the series, but I disagree. I love them both. It was incredibly hard to see Wolf fight against the mind control and yet be singled out as the "best monster." He was turned into a predator for an army. I really loved this, and seeing a glimpse of innocent Ze'ev before all this happened. ★★★★.75

Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky: YES! Thorne is the best, and 13 year old Thorne was no exception. This follows Thorne making big plans to buy a Rampion space ship one day, but being reprimanded by his father for failing maths class. Therefore, he seeks the help of Kate Fallow, flirting with her in a way, but things don't go as planned. Damn, Thorne was as big a flirt as a tween as he is now. It was great seeing him as a kid, and the glimpse into his family life explained a lot. ★★★★.5

After Sunshine Passes By: This is a prequel to Cress, and explains how she ended up on the satellite as a spy for Luna. This was very interesting, as Cress seemed to be very different before the satellite. She was very childlike and innocent, being very excited about having stories to tell her friends so they become jealous of her. It showed how Sybil recruited her for Levana's team. However, I didn't think this story was as important as the other ones and didn't really add anything, in my opinion. ★★★☆☆

The Princess and the Guard: This was one of my two favourites! This story gives us insight into Winter's and Jacin's lives as kids. It shows us why Winter decided not to use her Lunar gift anymore, and how she started showing symptoms of Lunar Sickness. It was so touching. It also showed how Levana started hurting her to try and force her to use her gift, as she showed signs of power as a kid. Jacin becoming the Queen's personal guard is also shown. This was just amazing and emotional. I loved it. ★★★★★

The Little Android: This was a retelling of the Little Mermaid and in my opinion, mind-numbingly boring. I didn't really care about Mech6.0, the "Ariel" in this situation, who had feelings which is a big no-no for androids. She is in love with this guy, Dataran, who she barely knows and who is in love with another girl, Miko. I don't like plain love stories, and this was precisely that. The only thing I liked was that Cinder made an appearance. The worst story in this collection, and it felt like the longest. ★☆☆☆☆

The Mechanic: This is basically the scene where Kai comes to Cinder's mechanic stall from Kai's point of view. It was alright, but it was nothing additional or special. It was meh. ★★☆☆☆

Something Old, Something New: This is the amazing epilogue we were all waiting for! As the title suggests, it involves a wedding between one of the pairs. I loved seeing everybody reunite again, and it was so satisfying having this as the final conclusion to the series. I almost cried, it was so perfect and I couldn't have asked for anything else. (Expect perhaps another 100000 book series?) It was wonderful to reunite with these hooligans again. ★★★★★

Overall, this was a pretty great collection with a lot of enjoyable stories that allowed me to reconnect with the group of characters I grew to love in Cinder, Scarlet, Cress and Winter.

  1. I loved how you reviewed each short story. I couldn't agree more with The Princess and the Guard. I fell in love with Winter and Jacin all over again. I shipped them so bad in Winter!!! I just want more books in this world and series.

    Great review!

    1. I know, The Princess and the Guard was sooooo good. Winter and Jacin are so good together. Same, I could read an encyclopedia sized book set in this world. Thanks!
